I thought I made a topic for this movie ages ago, but I was shocked to discover that I did no such thing!
Alan Moore is hands-down one of the best, most interesting figures in the comic book industry today, and has been for the 30+ years he's been involved with comics. He's batshit insane, but he's a fantastic writer and a good portion of his work has a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, Hollywood has a knack for taking said work and shitting out the most godawful film adaptations. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell, V for Vendetta...
And now Watchmen. I've been following the production of the film since summer '07 when it was announced at the San Diego Comic Con International. Of course I was extremely weary of the idea of a Watchmen movie. The ways in which the filmmakers could fuck up this movie were seemingly endless. Now, nearly two years later, I have to say that Synder and co.'s effort to remain as faithful to the source material as possible has really surprised and pleased me.
Basically, I am far more excited for this film than I ever thought I would be. I know it's not going to be perfect, I don't expect it to be. I know it's going to be filled with bullshit slo-mo that Zack Snyder seems to love so much. But, I know that--unlike the other Moore film adaptations-- the cast and crew respect the graphic novel so much and truly set out to make the best movie they possibly could. I've got my tickets for the midnight premiere on 3/6/09, and I am fucking ready to see this movie.
