I'm torn between putting this in the land of irrelevency and here, and since I have a strange desire to suddenly prove I CAN post somewhat on-topic stuff, it goes here (HP, feel free to move this if you think it's in the wrong place). Anyhow, I know in some post here recently I mentioned I'd been having Raymond-related dreams, and while a few of them I just cannot enter into detail about *innocent look*, I thought I'd toss out the bulk of them because they started me thinking (they took place over most of last week, and are loosely linked).
(LONG POST warning -- if you bore easily, skip ahead about 7 paragraphs)
Anyhow.. first dream might have been a version of dream 4, but since I can't remember, I'll go with this: It was a rather short dream, somehow someone had arranged for a photo shoot involving Ray-Ray (it might have been KillaQueen for upcoming album publicity), and, believe it or not, the more active females of the online fandom. (I think you, dear MaryO, might have been the photographer chosen... I honestly can't remember) Not sure exactly what happened during shoot, my memory fails me, but I do remember one photo perfectly: a black-and-white image, Raymond on center left edge of image, various of us arranged around him, in a roughly triangular arrangement, the sort of arrangement that would scream to the viewer that Raymond was both master of the scene, and yet curiously subject to the insane females arranged around him. I think there might have been a second arrangement in the same setup, but involving lots of bondage gear and shiny, shiny materials.
Second and third dreams: A couple of graduate school students -- I think their major was sociology, or something film related -- had, while desperately trying to think of something to do for their thesis work, somehow stumbled across the Pig fandom (I think they saw an online version of the pic from dream one), noticed how vocal the female fans are, decided to look at some of Ray's lyrics, and had that "How can women like a guy who sings about stuff like that?" reaction, and decided to explore how women and misogynistic songs mix. (I had a repeat of this dream as soon as it had ended, and in it somehow Raymond's people actually were involved in this thesis being filmed, either by actively seeking out students to make a documentary that would combine women and the making of his latest album -- the students could also use it to fulfill coursework requirements -- or the students had contacted Raymond's rep and offered it as a promotional documentary after they got their final grade on it) Here follows most of us (guys also, apparently someone along the way decided to film interviews with the male members of the fandom, for a followup documentary) being interviewed irl and followed around for a while each, the better to contrast our real life selves, our online personas, our interest in Raymond's music, and other grad student pretentiousness designed to get the students an A. (Some of the footage was black and white, some color) The overriding themes in our interviews seems to have been that personifying the bad is not the same as actually BEING the bad, as well as a healthy appreciation for the varied musical stylings of Mr. Watts. (And a healthy appreciation for his physical attractiveness, also.) I have no memory of what happened next... but I remember the thing finally being screened (or released on DVD? It might have been that), the promotional image used for it (and the opening shot of the film) being the photograph from dream one, and it being given the title of "Fetal Pigs" (I'm sure there was more to the title, but that is all I recall).
Quick note: I apparently have an obsessive mind when dreaming, I tend to have the same dream multiple times in a row, with minor variations each time, almost as though my mind is exploring ALL possibilities in a dream. And sometimes, that exploring multiple variations happens all at once, like I have multiple dreams running simultaneously, so that's why I'm really unclear as to some details, and why some details may vary.
Dream 4: Don't ask me why, I have completely forgotten the very beginning of this dream, but the first thing I recall is Trent Reznor apparently deciding he wanted an official, Rezonr-Approved(TM) NIN remakes album, Ray-Ray's "Head Like a Hole" remake being deemed acceptable enough for inclusion (apparently Reznor was feeling very anal and was hand-picking the artists and songs he wanted redone, and someone was brave enough to remind him "Head Like a Hole" had already been redone). This lead to a video being shot for the song (black-and-white early 50s film noir style), and Raymond winding up in a NICE grey suit, matching hat, and don't ask me why, spats.
Basic plot, from what I can remember, is Raymond has been hired as a private investigator (somebody was cheating on someone else, he was the p.i. hired to find out about the infidelity, and there were so many variations on who was cheating on whom that I can only remember a few variations: Husband wanting to know if wife was cheating, wife wanting to know if husband was cheating, wife wanting to know if boyfriend was cheating, husband wanting to know if his boyfriend was cheating.) He winds up in a VERY smoke-filled, bottom-of-the-barrel bar-burlesque club (OLD burlesque, the type that DID involve nudity), watching the stage and audience to see if cheater was in the crowd. (One variation, he was sitting in the audience, another variation, he was sitting at bar, nursing something involving hard alcohol, and smoking). Anyhow, it turns out cheater isn't just cheating -- that's left unclear -- but is a burlesque performer in an act involving BDSM (and, in a few other variations, is also a prostitute). So after a couple of variations involving a performance where the woman is the center of the act, and another variation where a 40somethingyearoldman is the center of the act, I had another dream variation where RAYMOND is both the p.i. AND an entirely seperate performer (maybe identical twins?) who makes extra money by being a rent boy.
How the video ends varies... a few variations have him deciding to milk the cheatee for more money while trying to decide whether he wants to have an affair with performer, a couple of other variations have him being hired by performer to find out if spouse/significant other is cheating on them (and discovering, yes, cheatee is involved in something sordid, illegal, and possibly involving cheating, I think in one case the husband was performing and/or prostituting himself to cover debts brought on by a herion addiction... honestly don't remember, it might have been husband was involved with the mob or was robbing stores at night), and a few other variations continue on with Raymond being solicited by performer, taken backstage, and having fellatio performed on him after he handed over some cash. (There were only two variations on who was the giver: The female performer, and the other Raymond. Lots of shots of p.i. Raymond's facial expression during this, which doesn't change much -- apparently it was decided to go with facial expressions and nothing more graphic to avoid the video being classified as porn.) Conclusion of these variations is p.i. Raymond deciding he might become a repeat customer while milking cheatee for more cash, final shot of him walking down a narrow alley back into the civilized world.
Dream 5: All the mess of dream 4, with additional segments of Raymond, in modern times, singing, to be intercut with the filthy, filthy little video of dream four.
Dream 6: Our intrepid and puffed-up grad students from dreams 2 and 3, again... but they were now filming the making of dream 5's video as part of their thesis. And all the variations concerning WHY they are filming all of this apply. So it was a MESS of a dream, really not worth retyping all of the above... but I do remember one thing: During one variation that had some of us fans on set for the video filming (okay, we might have been there as extras, or just to watch), both female and male, and had Raymond pleasuring Raymond, P0x and HP turned to each other during a break in the filming and basically agreed that that entire idea was fucked up, but thank God it didn't involve tentacles. This dream and all its variations eventually ended with the documentary/thesis/whatever the hell it actually was having been graded and picked up for indie film distribution and it being screened at some tiny film festival for the first time, and the two students were giving some sort of hightly pretentious speech to the assembled audience (one variation had the final, finished video showing after the thesis credits). Some of us were there, Raymond and a couple of his people were there in a few variations, and I woke up once the now-Master's-Degreed pair stopped talking and the opening image of dream one's picture appeared, along with the full "Fetal Pigs" title (it might have been something like "Fetal Pigs and the Hog Butcherer: A Post-Milennial Study of Misogyny, Neo-Feminism, and Idealogical Synthesis"... honestly, all I recall of the title is "Fetal Pigs" and that the rest was sheer academic pretention.) Oh, and I think a book may have been written to go along with the documentary, don't remember.
(Ye who skipped about 7 paragraphs, resume reading here)
All of this assorted Ray-Ray related dreaming got me thinking... why not? Why hasn't someone done a short documentary about the fandom, Raymond and his music as Pig, or both? I understand he's strapped for money right now, and a well-done one would cost quite a bit... but why not pay for a small documentary or promo? I highly doubt a couple of students are going to stumble across Pig and feel compelled to make a feature-length documentary, but... hell... the universe has provoked much weirder coincidences. Publicity, Raymond, publicity! For the love of women everywhere, publicity!
(That music video, alas, will forever remain a product of my brain chemistry.)
