I didn't add Watts to projects because its an extension of PIG. I was mega psyched about the Release of Watts - Pigmartyr. I plugged the hell out of it & I pre-ordered it from "Grand" Recordings. After a month of not getting my pre-order I tapped out. I ordered it on Amazon.uk and it came quick as I knew it would. I enjoy it for the most part, the vocals aren't so clear at parts, the music drowns out the vocals at parts, and many of the songs are re-releases but overall I'm glad it came out. Like anything Raymond does I want to see it live! The cd is good but to see it live would be Great.

I love the bass line in Situation. It has to be my favourite track on the album along with Take and Reject.
I was one of the lucky people who actually got my copy from Grand, but after hearing the stories I decided not to press my luck and order a shirt.

Pigmartyr would be a great album if it didn't sound like a demo. I keep going over to TSC to see if anyone is going to justify that. But I'm able to love some of the songs even with the terrible quality.
I really hope it gets a US release and is fixed for it. And that lyrics are in the liner notes. I'm not going to buy the album unless they remaster it (or whatever needs to be done) and release it in the states. I can't afford $26 for an imperfect album. I'd gladly PayPal Watts some cash, though.

Release it in Japan and US. Add different photos in the liner notes of each. Remaster it and add atleast 2 tracks.

Ah, so there are lyrics in there already. I'm glad I never asked on TSC for them. Since I didn't pay for the thing, I deserve to suffer and not know what's being said. Maybe I'll even get to embarrass myself by quoting what I think the lyrics are sometime.

Sadly, I own the CD and didn't realize the lyrics were in the insert. Had to go check after I read the posts in this thread.
But lately, I find that I get a CD, rip it into iTunes, sync it to my iPod, then the CD goes on a shelf to gather dust until my drive crashes or something...

You deserve a big kiss for that Last time I checked, they weren't there. I actually heard most of the lyrics for Kundalini correctly. Except for the ones I couldn't make out at all. Though I like my version with "I'll take your clothes tonight" a bit better. Though listening to that in the car and thinking he said that made driving unsafe. But now that I *know* he's talking about vaginas and labia I think I'll be more unsafer. I should probably not listen to that one in the car anymore.

I was one of the lucky ones who didn't get screwed from the pre-order, so I've had it quite some time now. While it's certainly not <PIG> quality (especially not GAM quality...) it is an interesting project. A lot of tracks are disconnected to me...the verse will wander and wander, but will eventually hit a signature Watts explosive chorus.
Just posted in a forum a couple of clicks back, that for me, it's worth it for 'Junky.' (btw, I love listing to Watts' Junky and Throb's Junky back to back..) but I'm easily amused, so..
Btw, just signed up, so hey all.

Some guys review of Watts - Pigmartyr from here... www.livejournal.com/community/pig_fans/ I claim no expert musical knowledge in this review; what I say is simply what I feel as substantiated by my imperfect perceptions and Pig's musical history. That said, feel free to fix up any misheard lyrics or interject with your own facts/opinions/thoughts concerning the album. Further reviews are also encouraged in new posts.
1. Suck Shit Spit what begins with samples from a cheering crowd mingled with a raspy, barely-there beat heard amidst an even more muted violin and some sort of tribal chanting, all indicative of some imagined stage, perhaps outdoors, perhaps on a jungle island somewhere, soon opens on heightened cheering, and finally Watts begins the album on his own stage: "This ain't masturbation! / This is penetration!" [thx booboo] Hard riffs follow in a song not unlike thesickcity v.1's. This is a solid beginning with, bar none, the greatest overall ongoing riffs on the album.

2. Here to Stay the riffs are decent, but this song relies mainly on its chorus - "Hey now, I'm here to stay, you better pray / Kiss my ass and pray." The lyrics, though I don't know them all, don't seem as biting as his past work, exampled by "Kiss my ass and pray," which I thought was boring, and the general washed-out feeling of the non-chorus lyrics.

3. Reject there's no significant counterpoint in this song; it's just an ongoing, somewhat boring rock riff with some imaginative lyrical stylings. For instance, the repeated double meaning of the lyric, "You reject," can mean to reject as a verb, but can also mean the noun form of being a reject, or repulsive person.

4. Situation the first half of this song is pure funk and very indicative of Pig's old eclectic work, and soon opens to a very nice rock chorus alongside some megaphone-styled vocals, and later a few really demonic vocals. Very nice experimentation here. However, the song could use more funk, or could have even mixed the funk with the rock, which no doubt a younger Pig would've done, instead of separating them. Perhaps in a future mix.

5. Kundalini the flagship song on the album pretty much apologizes for any of the subpar songs. It's that amazing. It opens with some light electronica amidst an even lighter beat and some interspersed electronic beat distortions, then jaunts easily into a very Toxico-like narrative gimmick in which Watts refers to a specific character, like Toxico, but in this case named Kundalini, all using saturated vocals. Unfortunately, the lyrics to these vocals are subpar compared to the lyrics concerning the angelic/demonic Toxico character, instead opting for the usual sexual and religious innuendo: "Eenie, meenie, miney, moe, Kundalini get ready to go / Desire, vagina, what do you say? / Kundalini get ready to pray." Not too interesting, even if typical of Pig, until we hit the chorus, which is a melodic blend of voices that change pitch throughout the song; the lyrics to this chorus also have a poetically anaphoric effect throughout: "Open your eyes tonight / You could be wise tonight / You could survive tonight / I'll be your eyes tonight / I'll be your lie tonight / Unto the sky tonight / I'll take your blows tonight / I'll show you lows tonight." The song's interest doesn't end at the chrorus, either; Raymond's voice changes into a loftier cadence, as opposed to his earlier distortion-saturated voice, and then changes back to distortion again with more references to Kundalini. Electronic beats and distortions follow each progression, until finally reaching an abrupt tenuis after belting out a particularly eerie series of overlapping choral voices.

6. Vitriol Vice and Virtue begins with some casual thrashing rock chords, slowing down quickly and settling into some traditionally-distorted Raymond vocals concerning "devil's debt" and such cliches. This is all the usual Pig-speak for a buildup to a powerful, hopefully classical-rock middle and finish; but instead that buildup meets a group of vocals that are washed out by a new distortion and covered over by some generic riffs, and then the chorus: "Vitriol Vice and Virtue," vocally drawn out in an impressive manner despite the false buildup. So the rest of the song continues this juxtaposition of a decent chorus and washed-out, raspy vocals on a shiny platter of generic rock. The only real salvation in this song is small and comes in at 3:52, where a high-pitched Salambo-esque electronic chord runs on a decent drumbeat; however, it slowly peters off into the boring washed-out platter rock where it could have been brought in near the beginning and really added an interesting edge to the song. Hearing it end so quickly and abruptly ruins the rest of an already bland song. And now on the subject of what could save the song, the once-repeated lyric of "Just one hitch - I got a scratch you could never itch" were the only vocals that stood out besides the incessantly-repeated chorus, and so their repetition could've fixed up some washed-out portions of the song quite nicely, especially alongside the brief Salambo-esque electronica. Still, it's a decent, but unremarkable, song.

7. Take the only real question about this song is whether it's better than thesickcity v.1's version, which I'd have to answer affirmatively. This version has female vocals competing with Raymond's, whereas the original (as far as I remember) only had Raymond's. Their competing vocals makes this a very fun song, with Raymond's voice echoing as from a megaphone, and the female voice distributing itself in two-part harmony with his own. All the electronics and beats are just as good if not better than the original; as usual, the girls (except Lucia) really work some of these rough, hard songs into powerfully eclectic art, if only by virtue of their oppositely high tonality. It's hilarious and inventive to hear the female vocalist's reply of "Dream on!" to Raymond's "Here's a little token / Keep your mouth shut baby / And your legs wide open." She even turns "Dream on!" into a countering chorus of "Dream on baby / Dream on, baby / Dream on!" Their overlapping choruses finish this song perfectly.

8. Arbor Vitate though I have not recently heard the original, I remember it being better than this mix. Still, the chorus of "My god is good / My god is right / He'll give me what I need tonight" and the familiar saying of "One is for killing / One is for fun" has been seen with different lyrical mixtures pertaining to gods and guns in a few of his songs, all lending nice thematic reference. Besides the familiarly Wattsian lyrics and choruses, the song is driven by fitting, if unremarkable, guitar work. Pig has always lived by his remarkability, but as he told me, this album was going to be less eclectic. I think it's good that he considers the name-change as a tangent of his work, but even if he only becomes more rockish, as shown here and similarly but less so with GAM and Sinsation, he can still prevail with solid songs.

9. Stage Slut finally a song with some sampling outside of the vocals? It's used in the beginning, end, and sometimes in the middle here, but with little effect, so it's disheartened that Raymond didn't pull a few strange samples out to play with this album, but maybe his rock reacclimatization requires reduced amounts of sampling. The song garners more unremarkable rock, but luckily the chorus lyrics and chorus are both good: "Cut me up, shut me up, break me up, take me up, mix me up, fix me up, throw me up, shut me up, drink me up...Stage slut / With a hand in the honey / With a fist in the money." Here we see the same anaphoric types of expressions made popular in Kundalini, and in earlier songs like The Fountain of Miracles ("We drink together / We stink together / We breed together / We bleed together / We swing together / We cling together / We work together / We hurt together / We mate together / We hate together") and Infinite Shame ("Infinite pills / Finite thrills / Infinite mass / Infinite chills / Infinite toil / Infinite blame / Infinite trash / Infinite shame"). Stage Slut does try to be a good song, especially lyrically and with beats that move quite fluidly with the chorus, but the crux of the song's interest lies in the chorus, a group of vocals that are catchy but do not singularly make the song great, yet in the whole song are the only very remarkable parts therein.
3 of 5 hams
10. Junky at first mellow and drum-based with some very Wattsian but also mellow distorted vocal cadences, electronics cut into the song's beat like a knife until finally the song's catch is undramatically expressed in a female voice just as mellow as Raymond's: "I'm a junky / Fuck me." The similarly mellow beats continue until that voice returns with a catchy "Fuck me, yeah!" alongside her alloted riff, then the song switches back to some harder Watts vocals, some particularly demonic. The female voice is unlike Take's, both more mellow initially and yet, near the end, exceptionally intense, creating a distinction from mellow beginning and built-up end that the usually exceptional Pig song contains (for instance, Wrecked and My Sanctuary [Spent Sperm Mix]), and though I don't believe this to be on par with such examples, it is still a great song with distinctive and enjoyable vocals, progressively interesting beats, and a, like the vocals, similar mixture of mellow guitar twang with harder riffs. One must also respect a song whose wanton chorus is a male and female overlapping (whose vocal gender mixture is on par with Take's, Junky otherwise containing more snarl for the buck than Take's upbeat approach) in their recitation of "I'm a junky / Fuck me, yeah!"
5 of 5 hams
OVERALL SCORE: 4 HAMS! Not Raymond's best overall work, but still awesome!

It's so strange that people still haven't gotten there cd's yet. But I would honestly say it's worth the wait. I personally love the cd. I think it's terrific. I would say it's the best pig cd, but then I will hear another cd and say that is the best(I think they are all the best) Anyway, A lot of you were saying that it sounded not finished yet. I read something before it came out saying Raymond made it sound like that intentionally. Something about him wanting it so sound really raw. Not so put together, or something like that. But I still love it. well worth the money. which is amazing to say about a cd these days.

I filed a complaint with paypal against them, which achieved absolutely nothing. Looks like they just fucked me on it and there's nothing I can do about it. Well, there is one thing. Next time I talk to Ray, I'll be sure to fill him in on my full experiences with them.
Glad to hear someone got some decent treatment from them though. Wish I could say the same.
