In case someone didn't know... PIG appears on " A Gothic-Industrial Tribute to Smashing Pumpkins" with a cover of " 1979". Total track time: 4:59. Found it via iTunes (was released Apr. 26th of this year from Cleopatra), available for 99 cents seperately in case no one wants to buy the album itself. Also worth noting is the appearance of En Esch and Guenter Schulz listed seperately doing their own dance/techno/trance/whatever the fuck you want to call it take on " 1979". Their version sounds nothing like the original, and personally I find the PIG version much better. Always good to have guitars. Neither track sounds anything like the other, even though they both come in at 4:59. Raymond's voice is a little shaky on the chorus on PIG's take, but above all is pretty cool. Cool textures, and, even though I'm a fan, Ray always sounds better than Billy's voice.

Yeah, I remember hearing it somewhere. I thought it was a little creepy, but in a really sexy way.

I love this cover. I love playing it for people who've never heard of PIG and its fun to watch their brain explode.

I just prefer to open the cranium and remove the brain BEFORE the messy exploding. Saves on cleaning bills.
As to Ray's version... it's a song I've grown to love. First couple of times I heard it, his voice bothered me; can't exactly explain why, but part of it was it gave me the feeling he was about to pass out due to some life-threatening illness, or that he had a hell of a cancerous lump on his larynx. It's grown on me since then, and while not one of my all-time favorite Pig songs, it's something I won't skip past when it winds up on my playlist when playing my media files. (I never did like Corgan's vocals on it... too damn whiny... so it is a definite improvement on the original song)

I stole it for nothing off of DC++ and my mate's broadband connection. I'm not all that fond of it - Head Like A Hole remains his finest cover. But it is better than the original. No beef with the Pumpkins in general but they are extremely whingy, espeically Corgan.

ive never had the pleasure of hearing pigs cover of head like a hole. cant find it anywhere on album or download. what is it like? Describing music has never been a talent of mine, but it has a big band flavor to it, in part because of the tempo and some nice brass work. There's also some whip cracking and Raymond going "whoo!" near the end (that "whoo!" makes me giggle). It's probably the best song to strip to I've ever heard... I always picture a film-noir type dive with an overworked stripper and lots of fedoras, trenchcoats, and fog whenever I hear it. NP

I found the "Head Like a Hole" cover at iTunes back in July on the album:
Signal To Noise: Reinforced Industrial Hits
Hope that helps.

While I'd call Billy's voice nasal rather than whiny, and I prefer the original (big Pumpkins fan), this is one with merit. A friend of mine bought the G.I Tribute, and he said that originally this was the only one he didn't like, but it grew on him after time. I can certainly see where he was coming from. I much prefer it to the HLAH cover.
