Lets talk about this new genre called E - electronic B - body M - music People we're starting off with a stupid genre term. Here is the Wikipedia page about it... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_body_music Front 242 is the only band I see that they call EBM that has any credibility (they kicked ass live in 1998 with an aggressive live drummer). I can not be the only one out there that believes that this genre is 100% generic & an absolute waste of hearing. All of the songs in this genre are generic syth crap with cheesy/boring/child like lyrics and songs don't evolve at all ever its always the same go damn beats and sounds! I guess its Industrial music for the brain dead, hung over and overdosing.

EBM isn't 'new'. But it is shit. In fact, it's the reason I don't really listen to industrial (with the exception of Pig and Foetus) anymore.

I listen to...pretty much anything. But I can't say I've found a straight up EMB band that I love.

After a while, all of them sound alike. If you're not paying attention: Every song bleeds as the same.

Yeah. I think that's where the problem comes from.

Its funny how GOTH (god I hate that term) INDUSTRIAL (jackhammer baby!) clubs for the most part play EBM but hardly ever any Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death, The Cure, Etc... PIG, Chemlab, PWEI, Etc... I guess it makes sense because the more mindless & zombie like the customer the easier they are to control. Just like Rap clubs play just bass songs. I've never been a scene person I'm not a scene person and never will be. I like to communicate with people not pose!

It's all about "Will people dance to this?"

My response to venues that say that is to listen to a song by The Dead Milkmen called Instant Club Hit (You'll Dance to Anything)
Check out the song here... www.ripthesystem.com/music/TheDeadMilkmen/TheDeadMilkmen-InstantClubHitYoullDanceToAnything.mp3
Here are the lyrics...
You'll dance to anything [x4]
Oh, baby, look at you Don't you look like Siouxsie Sioux How long'd it take to get that way What a terrible waste of energy You wear black clothes say you're poetic The sad truth is you're just pathetic Get into the groove just get out of my way I came here to drink not to get laid So why don't you just go on home 'Cause if you want to moan you'll have to moan alone
You'll dance to anything [x2]
Don't try to tell me that you're an intellectual Cause you're just another boring bisexual "I met Andy Warhol at a really chic party" Blow it out your hairdo 'cause you work at Hardees 80 pounds of make up on your art school skin 80 points of I.Q. located within
Know what you are? You're a bunch of ... Artfags! Artfags! Artfags! Artfags! Choke on this you dance-a-teria types!
You'll dance to anything by The Communards You'll dance to anything by Book of Love You'll dance to anything by The Smiths You'll dance to anything by Depeche Commode You'll dance to anything by Public Image Limited You'll dance to anything by Naked Truth You'll dance to anything by any bunch of stupid Europeans who come over here with their big hairdos intent on taking our money instead of giving your cash, where it belongs, to a decent American artist like myself!
You'll dance to anything!

Funny story: I was sitting in my favorite diner and Pride week was being helpd just outside it. They where playing a shit ton of EBM and other such techno. From where I was, it sounded like a washing machine that's out of balance.

You know what? Different strokes for different folks. There are worse music types out there in the universe.

I like some of it. I've been known to listen to VNV Nation, from time to time. But the music bleeds together if you're not paying attention. Most of the time the bands never have an actual anding to a song. It just flows into the next one.

Rap annoys me because there's no real talent to it. Anyone can be a rap star. You pay someone to lay down an urban beat and then just say a bunch of stuff that rhymes in fast rhythm.

some cds are meant to be that way. That's true, but it doesn't make it sound good in most cases.

I actually frequent Gothic/Industrial clubs in Sacramento, CA, and a friend of mine actually spins/writes EBM music. I must say, much of it is stuff that I would never listen to at home, but since I go to clubs specifically to dance, I enjoy myself thoroughly. It was actually a similar thing with my affection for PIG. You can ask Zer0, I never listened to PIG much until I actually heard them live. After that, I saw the beauty that is Raymond Watts and haven't looked back. That said, I'm actually listening to Orbital right now, so needless to say, my opinion of genres varies with my mood.
