Okay, I think this is the best place I could rant about this shit. Since HP's kind of a conspirator theorist and everyone else doesn't give a shit.
I had considered myself a liberal for many years. I still do in some respect, however, I file as independent. This confuses a lot of my family and friends. Many of them think I take the "wuss" point of view by not picking a side. Then I thought myself: How stupid is that???
Having a "redneck" family, and several conservative friends, I am prone to listening to a lot of ranting. I've noted that conservatives like hearing them talk about themselves a lot. However, amid the babble, I noticed that I agree of several economic and worldly issues. The problems I had with the right were their points of view on social issues... and I find it very amusing to pick on religious people.
I think the easy way out IS picking a side, so you have others make arguments for you. I don't believe that the majority of Americans are one sided or the other. Wouldn't it be a better country if we just ignored the labels of democrat and republican and just voted for the person who best represented us?
Last election, I admit, I voted for Obama. Why, you ask? Well, he presented ideas that were more intelligent (at the time) than McCain. McCain scared me only because he seemed to be SO OLD and I was terrified that Palin would take office. Everything that woman says is idiocy. I admit, Obama did not deliver what he promised. He should have focused more on the economy and job building instead of a health care plan nobody wanted. I still do not regret my decision tho. I think a lot of congressmen and women are trolling Obama and doing the opposite of everything he says and does just to make his time in office harder... because he's a democrat.
This back and forth pattern of who controls congress is an excellent representation as to why I think most Americans are in the middle. I don't think you need to be an educated person to know what your beliefs are and lately it is becoming a popularity contest to fit someone new into office.
I've also seen the new pattern of extremities to prove a point. Politicians use ridiculous analogies that are over the top to prove a point... on something that isn't extreme. (i.e. refering to any other politician as Hitler, a mass-murderer of a people). I thought the whole idea of "Occupy Wallstreet" and other areas was a brilliant idea. Way to protest your point of social equality. I agree that everyone should be taxed equally and the best way to prove it is to show your numbers to the media. That isn't extreme. Doing damage to property and harming police officers, however, is just flat-out stupid and ruins the beauty of the protest. All it takes is a few dumb kids to ruin something that was such a good idea. This kind of media attention is over the top and destroys the message as to why you are out there to begin with.
I guess my point is that I think I should start a blog (maybe a vlog) to kind of gather like-minded people. I would love to hear feedback from you guys (don't pull the punches). I think it is important that we utilize our freedom of free press in an intelligent manner and have discussions.
Bottom line: two party systems do NOT work.
