NEIN. Unless I get something out of the deal. I don't like needy strangers. Maybe if he were to suck up in the forums I'd feel differently. If you like the artist, you will pay... and pay you shall...

Why? Do you not understand that an artist doesn't see shit from it's CD sales? We should happily get his music out there. Sascha: To answer your question, basically there’s two ways of income in a classical scenario for the musicians. One is … actually there’s three sources I should say. One is mechanical copyright royalty. That is a royalty that derives from the fact that copyrighted material is being duplicated in the manufacturing process and that’s sold. That money goes to the composers and the writers of the songs. So in a case, for example, Elvis Presley never wrote a single line of song music. It was a team of people called Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoler that wrote all the stuff. So for every Elvis record that gets sold, Leiber and Stoler would get that mechanical royalty. In our case, we write the stuff, we get that. That is typically eight cents per song. A major label will give you only the 75% rate, so only about six cents per song. That is usually capped at 10 or 11 songs per record, so the maximum in a best case scenario that you will make in terms of mechanical royalties per sold album could be 88 cents, but definitely no more. The second form of income is an artist royalty. That is like a profit share. Not bound to who wrote the material but is paid to the artist. That is ranging anywhere from around a dollar minimum to just about over two dollars maximum. In our case it’s just a little bit over two dollars. We’re at basically three bucks. Then the third source of income is a performance royalty which is usually paid and collected through BMI or ASCAP. That means any radio station that has the license also has to pay a check every month to BMI and ASCAP. And BMI and ASCAP look at the playlist of this radio station and then figure out who gets what share of that money. They get most (laughs) but then musicians get some too. Also on the sale of blank CD’s and CD burners, there’s a bit of a royalty that musicians get. Here's the link, if you wish to read the rest of it: Here

ok, I wasn't looking for a MASSIVE rant... but I see your point. An artist does see a rather SMALL portion of record sales, but they still see that portion. If the label continues to put out music that I like, then fine, I'll support the fucking label. "80% of the people in this world are middlemen... and unfortunately, they don't like being cut out" ~Malcom Reynolds (from Firefly).

I'm still a firm beleiver in supporting the creative genius, but the leech. I buy albums, but I have no problem with ripping them to help others get into the music. Concerts are a great way to help the band. If they own the logo to their name, then Shirt sales stickers and patches are cool as well.

Right, I'm not against downloads.... or filesharing... just the fuckers who do that and nothing else. Just buy ONE cd a month. That's all, and support your industrial music.
