There's a black space where my soul should be A gaping wound where my heart could be I feel so low I feel like Christ I see my head is turning white The knuckles twisted raw and I'm so empty And there's no respite My Sanctuary

Everything Everything you give, everything you bleed, I need Everything you hate, everything you hurt, I love Everything you cut, everything you kill, I feel Everything you burn, every little bribe, I lose
Blades You hold my head, I cannot hurt You touch my heart, I cannot bleed You close my eyes and I can see
The Book Of Tequila I drink the book of tequila daily I'm the one who can't say maybe

Cold Light (whole song)
Numerious single lines. Like "I am the corpse that you felch" and "Your favourite cut of dirty pork." Blackball's a good song.
I love Hog Love, but he didn't write that. Which is disappointing.
But the things that come out of his mouth when just talking are the best. On the DVDs, never does the growling, snarling, dirty man on stage sound like the strange feather-covered man in gas stations or hotel rooms. Not because of the voice. Just the silly things he says. Which I suppose happens when one is drunk all the time...

Here are the lyrics strait from the Japanese inserts (Which have been wrong before).
Amok Here I Hide The Severed Head I Keep Alive I've Got Bruises, Lies, Here's My Pride... Looking Down The Barrel Of A 45
*Stick Me Bleed Me Don't Say You Need Me Hit Me Suck Me Come On... Fuck Me **Fuck Me Fuck Me Fuck Me Fuck Me
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOK AT THE MANTELPIECE WHEN YOU'RE POKING THE FIRE
I'm Young, Dumb, Full Of Fun I Feed My Fire, My Fist, And Come The Light Of My Life Is A Switchblade Knife This Gun Becomes My Lawful Wife
*Repeat
I Wanna Kill, I Wanna Cut, Hurt, Shuttup I Wanna Feel My Self Denied I Wanna Feel This Noose Grow Tight I Will Defile And Taste The Bile I Will Crawl That Crooked Mile To Caress Your Stubborn Head With An Ounce Of Flaming Lead
*Repeat **Repeat

I understand it's an Australian saying that means 'who cares if a chick is fugly when you're boning her', or something.
I really like that bit in 'Gravy Train',
... this is the place where desperation reigns DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN
Not just because it's a nice little play on words, but because the timing with which he delivers it is impeccable. I also like the Mad Max references in Ojo Por Ojo (step right up and Ride the rubber road to freedom... - part of what the loony at the start is chanting, may have originally been taken from an AC/DC song - does anyone know if Ray is a fan?) and Find It Fuck It Forget It (We ride side by side on the liquorice ride - a female singer uses this same line in the pub scene). Has anyone else spotted any neat little references like this in any of his other songs?

gotta love those sexist slurs that 'slip' into songs. if Ray wasnt so effin pretty id be really angry for the abundance of those.

I've got a problem with the misogynistic vein that runs through a lot of Raymond's work too (Resent myself to a degree for liking him so much in spite of it). Sometimes, it just strikes me as though he resents the pull that women have over him.
As for my favorite lyrics. I like all of "Sanctuary;" especially, this bit.
"The long way home I cannot seek He knows the pain its special place I know it's look I know your face "
. . . and this too.
"Devotion isn't what it seems The broker of my broken dreams"
I think "Sanctuary" was the first song that made me really stop for a moment and look at Raymond's writing.

In an interview on the Strum und Drang tour DVD, Ray says that he "becomes what (he) hates". I really find it fascinating in his music the pattern of self-loving and self-loathing that takes place. You can see it in his lyrics and you can hear it in his voice.

I don't think it could be any more blunt when he says "I am the sum of all I despise" in Arbor Vitate, unless he said "I hate myself" or something uncreative like that.

My favorite Raymond Watts lyrics are:
You've been tied - ripped - and bled Raped by freedom while hate gave head
— Revenge
The whole "Riot, Religion, and Righteousness" song, especially the "Get signed - get sealed - get fucked for real" part.
Come on - be my God Come on - buy my gun One is for killing One is for fun Too sad to walk away Too sad to say
— Painiac
I'm putting up a levee to keep the raging river of manure from my front door My pay off was pity and I'm ready for more I've got sucker punched and a feathered heart That can beat no more in vain Like the bitterest pill with your sordid thrill You run a franchise on my pain
— Find It, Fuck It, Forget It
All of Hamstring on the Highway — "This hope is braking and is sunk - I'll dive into this long disease - the captain of this ship drunk"
gally, I don't see what you mean by that Raymond Watts' music is misogynistic. Sure, it's a bit dirty, but he doesn't call women "bitches" or have lyrics like, "just fuck them in the ear once and then dump them," or something like that. If you want misogyny, listen to some rap music (Eminem especially is loaded with misogyny).

WARNING-!! Long ranty post following. No flame intended, just defending myself. ^_^
“gally, I don't see what you mean by that Raymond Watts' music is misogynistic. Sure, it's a bit dirty, but he doesn't call women "bitches" or have lyrics like, "just fuck them in the ear once and then dump them," or something like that. If you want misogyny, listen to some rap music (Eminem especially is loaded with misogyny).”<br> To be perfectly frank you don’t have to see it. That’s the nature of an opinion, and this one is mine. It doesn’t have to be yours, and I’m quite fine with that.
Since your misquote tells me that you didn’t really understand what I was saying; I will reiterate a bit, just to be clear.
I didn’t say, “Raymond Watt’s music is misogynistic.” I wouldn’t say this; because it is too strong and blanketing a statement. It doesn’t reflect my true opinion.
What I did say was, “I've got a problem with the misogynistic vein that runs through a lot of Raymond's work.” Meaning, there is some thing there. It’s subtle, like a scent on the wind. You may not be able to see it or touch it, but it’s there and it’s real. It makes me uncomfortable at times. I’d be the first to admit that good work, artistically, sometimes makes people uncomfortable. I’ve been receiving recognition for my own poetry since I was about nine, and I know I’ve made plenty of people uncomfortable with my work.
Generally, I think Mr. Watts tends to rage and spew with out regard for gender; however, he does often employ personification to his vices and the objects of his anger. When he does this; he is much, much more likely to personify these negative elements as female, using female pronouns.
In other examples where no gender specific pronoun is used to denote the object of Mr. Watts’ anger; he tends to feminize the object of his anger with feminizing words or phrases, such as, “baby,” “honey,” “darling,” or “sweet breath.” (Some of these words and phrases are considered more or less unisex; however they are more likely to be considered to be directed at a women when spoken/sung by a male.)
The notable exception to this pattern would be the incidents where Mr. Watts personifies his vices or the objects of his anger as, “God.” In this case our patriarchal society would surely see this as a male characterization.
Anyway, this is just a sample of my thoughts on the subject. I’m perfectly fine with it if no one else here feels this way. I try to respect the thoughts and ideas of others. I’m not trying to start any sort of a name calling match, and I’m surely still very fond of Raymond Watts’ work. I do apologize for being a bit off topic here, and to anyone who isn’t interested in these comments. I hope that everyone else on the forum will be okay with me defending myself from what I felt were some pointless and incendiary comments. Most notably these, "just fuck them in the ear once and then dump them," or something like that. If you want misogyny, listen to some rap music (Eminem especially is loaded with misogyny).” Why would I want that?
Hope everyone is having a good week and looking forward to a brilliant weekend.
