Eh, I was in our area Books-A-Million yesterday and wandered through the three shelves of music-related books. Stopped and flipped through some rock encyclopedias and those picture-heavy "[Fill in the blank with a number] Most Important Rock Bands" type books, almost had fits over some of the bands that were not included... then, may the sight be forever obliterated from my memory, I happened to glance down at that new Streisand biography. The pain of that moment aside, it got me thinking, and the end product of that line of thinking was this: Would there be a market for a history of Pig? Or for a bio of the sublime Mr. Watts? If so, who would write it or them? And how would one go about doing this sort of thing, anyway? (I'd love to... I know I have the insane research skills and writing skills to do so, but I suck at finding and interviewing people, and right now, I *really* need to find a job and start paying back my student loans!) I just think such a book could be a beautiful way of introducing Ray-Ray and Pig to a wider audience....

I'd have the book and one hand and the other would be kept very busy.

I know that there's a guy who does a lot of rock-biograghies & I have the NIN one. Perhaps if I found his details & we all e-mailed his publisher/agent, this may prompt some sort of publication. However, it will soo be a very busy time for RW so maybe now isn't the best time to start Or is it a good time so that research can be undertaken BEFORE troubling RW (after getting his permission to delve into his underworld called life) ?

Hmmm, I know the usual first step is to contact the publishing company and send queries through them to the author, so contact info beyond his name and company shouldn't be necessary. But having his contact info wouldn't hurt... perhaps we should all go ahead and send queries through the company? I don't care who writes it, really, as long as it's not one of those really cheap, quickly written sort of bios that exhibit the writing abilities of a committee of 10-year-olds (that's why I tend not to read true crime books or online porn, or read "romance" novels at all, too painful to see the lack of style combined with basic, basic sentences). Or how about this: We as a board do the research, interviewing, and writing? Like a group term paper, but instead of something thrown together in two days for a grade, something done over months/years for actual publication that reeks of quality and has so much information it becomes THE default reference/bio?

I say we staple some pigskin to the side of every cover... just for good measure.

While I doubt that it would open Pig up to a wider audience (I dunno about you guys, but I never buy biographies for people I've never heard of, and I don't see why anyone else would either), I'd get one.

NP mmm ok teach...but there's got to be some sort of main 'area' where the information should be sent/stored & then there needs to be someone (or a collective) that knows what's shit & what isn't, to put the information into some sort of order, re-type it & spend shed-loads of time & effort making it work. Whilst I see the benfits of doing it this way, I can't see that realistically any of us (mainly targetting me) would have the time or knowledge to get any 'real' work of art together. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea...a book by the people, for the people...so how can I help ?

Quite frankly, I *adore* the idea of a group-written work, and having edited (and in a few cases singlehandedly writing, based on others' notes) way more group projects than I care to remember, as well as having written more fiction and fanfiction than I care to admit (and having even been told by a couple of lit journal editors that I deserved to be published), I'd be more than happy to be involved in the writing/editing/general wordsmithing end. Quite honestly, though, I have NO idea how interested parties could get together and realistically do this... the logistics involved give me nightmares. And I know that as much as I'd love to do this on my own, I wouldn't be able to. *sigh* If anyone has any ideas how to make a group project work, I'd love to hear them.
