Honestly, I had no idea about anything with this artist. However, since this movie brought up a lot of controversy, I figure I'd post it here. I personally feel it was an accurate representation on the horrors of genocide. I think that they should've done it with brown haired kids instead of red-heads (mainly because its more common and would hit home more.) Anywhoo, what are your thoughts?

I don't think the point was to be more common or relate more closely to historical incidents of genocide or anything, I think it was an attempt at illustrating just how senseless it is to commit violence against people who, when you get right down to it, aren't that much different from us at all. It's like in school... I remember several of my teachers over the years would pick a random trait, blue eyes, red hair, sometimes even sneaker brand, and say that that group couldn't drink at the same fountains, have a pet dog, whatever. I mean they never actually carried it out obviously (though some teachers actually have attempted to recreate segregation as a "learning experience"... that generally ends in parental legal action) but it was just a quick example that helped us wrap our little heads around just how idiotic the concept of discrimination was... and later the concept of genocide.
Really, redheads were the best choice if you ask me. If they'd gone for brownhaired people, or black people, or anything else, people would try to interpret the video as a combination of a specific historical case of genocide. Only downside I can see though is, I guess it might have come of as being a little too satirical... which of course was solved by shooting a child pointblank in the head with a gun. That drove the seriousness and point home nicely.
You want to see a prime example of what's disgusting about our society though? Here's a fun experiment, google the video to find an article about it, read the comments section on any given article. 9 out of 10 of those posts will be about how the media is ruining our children with violent music videos, and how the individual responsible for the video is a certified "sick fuck" who should be jailed immediately. My personal favorite is the commentor who cites Little House on the Prairie in their critique. People can't even pay attention well enough to know what they oughta be made at anymore...

Yay! New M.I.A! She's of Sri-Lankan descent, and if you know anything about what has gone on over there in the past couple decades, then the video will make even more sense to you.
