Cheer up. Kitty is in a better place. One of my mom's cats died and ever since, my cat talks to her (and plays, which up to now, she's never done) at 3AM. I am in firm belief that cats all speak to each other in a means that we humans cannot understand. So as long as you have a kitty in your life, your cat is really never gone.

hey thanx. well i was feeling better about it after we tried to save him. the kidney flush thing and the medication. it was kinda nice cause he had one day after being at the vets were he was pretty much his old self again. but i guess the meds and flush only helped for literally a day :/
ya he is better now. it was just hard at first cause it was my first cat too. and he wasnt even 12 yet! thats kinda young and we fed him decent food. the curnchies were the IAMS.the most expensive shit there is..and he still died young! pfft
oh well. he was cool...kinda moody but he was cool

Just because the food is expensive doesn't make it nutrious. I'm not sure about IAMS, but Science Diet is both expensive and poor nutrition. My kitty eats ProPlan.
But yeah, humans get kidney failure too. The important thing is keeping them as comfy and happy as long as you can and they know you care :-D. That is what is important. And I think you did the best you could.

ya we did the best we could..unless we gave him shots and pills ever week, but thats expensive and i dont know..that doesnt seem right to me anyway
actually the IAMS crunchy the vet said is the best type of crunchies. it helps with hair balls and is all around good..so she said. its pretty pricey but oh well..he was a hemilyean type of cat..and i raed somwehere that they are more prone to kidney failure..who knows...but hey whats done is done..
its cool

Yeah it's always seemed to me that cats, as well as dogs, of certain types are all prone to certain problems. That's why I usually go for tabby's and mutts.

well ya full breeds always have more problems.. people must be kinda retarded..cause when i would hear about full breeds people gon on about how beatiful they are and its liek so amazing they have a full breed..yet they cost tons of money and get sick way more often? hahaah its called in breeding! nothing cool about that..geeze.
i dont know if oscar was an inbreed..haha but he had really long hair and so they say they are more prone to kidney failure. that is common for cats anyway..but being he wasnt even 12 yet makes me think its genetics with him.. we took great care of him and he was an indoor cat..we fed him friskies soft food..the vet said that was ok too... who knows....

A) Any soft/canned food is not good for cats at all. As a treat every once in awhile is fine, but it's pretty much kitty candy and it will rot their teeth and make them fatties.
B) Mostly anything you get in a regular store is crap as far as cat (or dog) food is concerned. You want to be sure to check the ingredients - if the first one listed is some kind of meal (chicken meal, etc) or flour, it's crap. You want to make sure the first ingredient is some real kind of meat.
I am entirely too tired and drugged up to think of any names now, but you should be able to give it a quick search online. I think Nature's Recipe or Natural something is one of them. Your best bet price wise is to hit up the local Tractor Supply Co (if you have those), or something similiar. You'd be surprised at the amount of good pet stuff the carry - everything from good food to treats, and even vaccinations (though I would NOT reccomend vaccinating your own pets unless you have experience doing so).
But yeh, my main point was, next time you're out picking up pet food, just take a look at the back of the bag and make sure the first ingredient is a meat. If it sounds like ground up crap, it probably is.

She's pretty old by now and she's not at all overweight, her teeth seem fine too. --- By the way, how did we get on the topic of cats?

She's pretty old by now and she's not at all overweight, her teeth seem fine too. --- By the way, how did we get on the topic of cats? Well, that's good. She must be well taken care of. I've seen soooo many cats in my work in vet hospitals with teeth problems and weight/diabetes issues because they were being fed nothing but canned Friskies from day one. Canned food can be okay - it's all about the ingredients. The best way to go is to make your own pet food. There are tons of good recipes on the net. I've done this a couple times for my dog, but not for my cats yet. I plan on it soon though - I don't trust store bought food for my babies.

ya the vet we go to has a good reputation. but she told us that friskies was ok,,,i wasnt there when she said this but apparently thats what she said, when i was researching the net when my cat was sick i did find the things u mentioned...about 'meal' crap is crap... damn!!! maybe the friskies isnt good. and ya oscar had a few teeth pulled out and when he went in for his kidneys the vet said he had a couple more that had to come out but obviously that didnt happen cause he died ill keep an eye on the soft food...and try to get better stuff for my next kitty... live and learn..poor oscar though ..

NEW STRIP NEW STRIP NEW STRIP!!! *squees like a little girl and hugs badluckshadow13* *reads strip* *laughs so loudly that her cat wakes up and sidles over to the laptop* *manages to accidentally elbow her cat in the head while cat is sidling and she is busy wondering what exactly the Kapt'n is doing to Ray-Ray* *spends time reassuring cat all is well and examining cat to make sure cat is ok* *cat starts purring again and prepares to settle back down to sleep* *can't get back to sleep as she is wracked with guilt over elbowing the cat*
Seriously, that is exactly what happened to Baby and me, her clumsy human, just now. I think my furbaby is now permanently traumatized regarding elbows. I am led to one inevitable conclusion: IT'S SASCHA'S FAULT. He is so determined to bring down all that is Pig that poor innocent cats are now being hurt. WHERE WILL IT END?

yep..thanx on for the kitty ...shes funny. she was pawing at the tv just a bit ago. haha and walks sideways when she wants to play..its weird...haha hot sauce as in hot sauce..not really for chips like u dip in salsa..i mean u could do that but you'd burn your face off and the rest of you this years isnt so hot though cause my peppers didnt grow very well..worse year i have ever had and the super chilis were mislabelled and they turned out to be these big stupid red things that didnt have as nice of a flavour and heat as the nice little super chilis do.. so its sorta a bust this year but its still something...
